In a thought-provoking session hosted by the Eswatini Investment Promotion Authority (EIPA) and the Chinese Embassy on Taiwan at the Sibane Sami Hotel in Ezulwini this week, the question on everyone’s mind was: “Will AI take your job?” This session, facilitated by Weirong Chang from Taiwan, delved into AI marketing strategies for business leaders, presenting a balanced view of AI’s role in the modern workplace. Reflecting on the discussion, it became clear to me that AI is not here to replace us but to enhance our productivity and capabilities.

The Real Impact of AI on Jobs

The fear that AI will lead to massive job losses is understandable, but it is also largely unfounded. AI, like any other technological advancement, is a tool designed to augment human capabilities rather than replace them. Historically, technology has always been a double-edged sword, creating new job opportunities even as it rendered certain roles obsolete. For instance, the advent of computers and the internet revolutionized industries and created a myriad of new professions.

AI is poised to do the same. It is transforming the workplace by automating repetitive tasks, thus freeing up human workers to focus on more complex, creative, and strategic endeavors.
